Taste of Huntsville Event
My husband and I were invited to attend the 43rd annual Taste of Huntsville event at the Von Braun Center this month. The theme for this year's event was tailgate food, so we expected all the buffalo chicken dip we could eat!
When we entered the South Hall of the VBC, tables lined the outer walls of the hall, each offering several dishes apiece. The center of the hall featured a silent auction to benefit the Downtown Rescue Mission and Harris Home for Children. Numerous patrons filled the long, picnic-style tables while others posed in an interactive photo booth.
In order to pace ourselves, we attempted to scout out every table and then plan which tables to hit, seeing as we could hardly imagine eating everything that was offered! This plan failed as soon as we hit the Embassy Suites table. Not only were they offering a Smore Tart, which was a chocolate ganache in a pastry shell topped with a roasted marshmallow, but they also offered a Buffalo Chicken Egg Roll. Both were out of this world!
Close to this one was the Westin table, which seemed to be where the party was! Their Hummingbird Cake caught my eye and my taste buds with candied pecan bark, a strawberry drizzle, and dried pineapple garnish.
We were both excited to see a familiar favorite, Texas de Brazil, serving up a deliciously tender steak with chimichurri sauce and micro greens. We were also happily surprised to see one of our incoming restaurants, Chuy's, sampling several menu items, including a chili cheese dip.
Our overall favorite table of the evening was the Grille 29 table; we loved the festive attire and welcoming servers. Their food was easily the best we had all evening as well as the most unique. We sampled Lobster Mac n Cheese and Asian Short Ribs, but the one dish that topped it all off was the Chocolate Trilogy. This multi-layered dessert included a rich chocolate ganache at the bottom, crumbled cookie in the middle, and a rich whipped cream on top.
So many different restaurants came out to participate in this event, and I would highly recommend attending next year's event. Not only are you supporting a worthy cause, but you have an opportunity to try different Huntsville restaurants and even come away with a few new favorites. We are definitely visiting Grille 29 in the near future; that Chocolate Trilogy can't elude us for long!
