Dolce Pan Review

Dolce Pan Bakery is nestled in the corner of a shopping center off Governors Drive. The name makes you expect to find a variety of breads and pastries inside, but Dolce Pan is so much more than a bakery. This Puerto-Rican cafe serves coffee, tea, sandwiches and entrees, as well as homemade pastries. The cafe is family-owned, and the owner welcomes her guests as if inviting them into her own home.

When we visited Dolce Pan, we ordered the Cuban Sandwich and the Pernil Asado entree. The Cubano was a warm, pressed sandwich made with soft, homemade bread and layered with slices of pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. The Cubano came with skinny potato stick-like chips.

The Pernil Asado is a Friday-only special and is made up of slow-roasted pork and two sides; one side is yellow rice mixed with pork and pigeon peas, and the other side is a potato salad. This dish resembles a pork plate that you would order at a barbecue restaurant. The pork was juicy and tender with a caramelized outer layer. The potato salad had a smooth consistency and lacked whole chunks of potato which I appreciated. Texture was added to the salad through diced red and yellow peppers. The yellow rice had a great flavor and complimented the roast pork.

We ended our meal with a Cuban Empanada and a side of fried plantains. The Empanada had the same ingredients as the Cubano, but placing those tangy+savory ingredients in a warm pie crust took the Cuban sandwich to another level.

Dolce Pan is participating in the summer brunch series at The Camp Huntsville starting in June, and their Cuban Empanada will be one of their many offerings. Dolce Pan has also started a partnership with Grub South and will deliver your dinner straight to your door.
Although Dolce Pan is a hot spot for lunch visitors, this cafe is also open for late breakfast and early dinner. Whether grabbing coffee with a friend or sitting down to enjoy an authentic Puerto-Rican meal, Dolce Pan will always welcome you by making you feel at home and by feeding you well.
